Welcome to the
World of Gaastra
Many sailors all over the world have lost their hearts to the unpredictable sea with all its facets and not just due to its vastness and pure freedom. This strong passion for the sea has been transferred by Douwe Gaastra to his sail making company in 1897 in the Dutch town Sneek. Down to the present day it’s this fascination that defines every single detail of the collection. The confines of seasons fade; bridges are built between functionality and craftsmanship. It’s the spirit of the sailmaker, who loves the nostalgic nautical look und who creates clothing even for the most unpredictable weather conditions, which you can feel in every piece of the new collection.
A NOSTALGIC LOOK AND HIGH-PERFORMANCE TECHNOLOGY FOR THE URBAN SAILOR
Funtion meets fashion. Apart from the perfect protection against all elements of nature; the focus lies on the traditional craftsmanship and the high-quality materials.
Craftmanship is what drives us
It all began with a young Dutch, whose aim it was to revolutionize the long standing seaman tradition in the Netherlands. He was confident, that he would be the one to interpret the well-known quality and craftsmanship completely new.
Since then, the theme „Fashion follows Function“ can be perceived in all collections. The borders between the seasons and between sporty and casual fashion are vanishing. Innovative designs complement the collections for women, men and kids.
As the proud sponsor of successful sailing teams and international regattas, the newest insights from the sailing sport influence the production of the professional sailing line Gaastra Pro. Always perfectly coordinated with the challenges offshore.
Fashion Trend: Athleisure
Trends come and go, but for this one the fashion world seemed to be waiting. So new, a whole unique term has been found: ATHLEISURE, a combination of the words athletic and leisure. Since the last few years the fitness style has conquered everyday street life more and more and the trend does not seem to go anywhere soon.
